Previous versions used to color the status bar icon red if there were any unread messages -- now it's just gray.
The dock icon is correctly displaying the unread count.

Inappropriate?There seems to be a new check box under preferences to enable or disable this feature. I'd check there

We changed the default and replaced plist files on a recent update, thus the switch.
