Maintain Scrolling Position within Timelines
Before, the scroll position used to stay at the last twitt, so that when you go back to the up you can just scroll up to see new twitts, this does not seem to happen now and it always scroll to the top by itself.

Inappropriate? Can you provide some specific details on exactly what the issue is? I cannot replicate what I am looking for, so I must misunderstand.
When running Nambu and switch timelines it always goes back the where it was before for each timeline. Do you mean on restart? -
Inappropriate?I'm not positive I'm having the same issue as Rafael, but what I experience is that while reading it jumps around unexpectedly. So I'll be happily reading tweets and suddenly I'm in a completely different part of the list of tweets and have to scroll back to where I was. This tends to happen after updates and new tweets are displayed, as well as when I reply to someone myself.
This is annoying, since it means I have to find my way back to where I was reading on a regular basis - it would be nice if the window did not scroll away from what I was looking at.
Hope this is a helpful description - I am aware I'm not being very clear. :)
Cheers,
Tobias
I’m unsure
-
I am not able to replicate this. When new tweets come in for my Home timeline it does not move. Is this happening to you somewhere other than the Home timeline? -
I get this too - it can be very annoying if you are trying to click a link. Happens in home. Not sure about groups. -
Inappropriate?it used to show the last read tweets every time we start nambu, and work our way up from the "older" to "newest", but now it would show the newest and we'd work our way down to the older tweets.
I’m happy that everything else works fine so far for 1.9.0.8
-
Yes on restart we reset the scrolling position to the top. We can an option to have to open on the last read tweet. -
Inappropriate? What i get is what is described.
When new tweets com in it resets to the top position, on the update. Rather on the automatic update, the scroll does not stand still on the last read twitt, if i have it highlighted, then pressing up or down teleports me back to that tweet, but the scroll view is reset to top. -
Inappropriate?Hey, I just updated another "question" or "issue" here on Get Satisfaction, re scrolling: http://gsfn.us/t/d3g1
This is an important feature for me, and one that - with groups - has set you so way way far apart in user ability from ANY competition.
So, please, a) there MUST be an option for scrolling... b) it MUST also work in groups... and c) even if you're already at the top, it MUST hold it's position so that new tweets will arrive above it!
Thanks guys!
I’m still happy, even though scrolling is not back yet!!!

Inappropriate? Is it possible to open Nambu at last read tweet, not the last downloaded one?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Start on last read tweet. -
Inappropriate?Yes Eric - kindly default or at least make an option for scroll to start at last read tweet and work its way UP as opposed to current position of auto scrolling to top and working down... Please
-
Inappropriate?I totally agree. Until this is fixed, I'm back to Tweetdeck. It's finally pushed me over the edge.
-
Inappropriate? We will be adjusting the default soon to open timelines after a Nambu start at the last seen message, if possible, not the top of the timeline as it does currently.
-
That isn't quite the issue reported here, or at least not the one I'm concerned about. As far as I'm concerned, the problem is that if you are, say, reading the 55th tweet on your screen and 10 new tweets come in, suddenly you are looking at tweet #45. If the view is scrolled to something other than the top of the page, the addition of new tweets at the top should not affect the scroll position. -
I'm having the exact same issue as daviddlevine; his description is much clearer than mine. -
Inappropriate?@Eric - The option of choosing which behaviour is exhibited would be desirable, although I appreciate the default would be to open at the last previously-seen (previously-clicked?) tweet.
-
Inappropriate?Hello again! How is this issue going... I notice it's not the NUMBER ONE "Problem" on this site! I really appreciate the updates we're getting, but this is the biggest issue.
I'm not sure this is so much a "scrolling" issue anymore. Basically, when going to a timeline (including groups, lists, etc.) there absolutely MUST be an option for it to open (at ALL times) at the last read message. Possibly this could be in the middle of the timeline, so we can see the shaded "read" messages below and the white / unshaded "unread" messages above.
I'm really surprised this has not been more of an issue... surely most people want to read tweets in the order they arrive? We don't all read as they come in!!!
Is there any chance of a status update from the developers on how they see this one going?
Thanks, Nic.
I’m Really I'm sad, but I still like Nambu, so I'll just stay neutral!
-
I completely agree w/Nic's comment above -- one of the main drawbacks of Nambu to me is that it automatically pulls me to the top of the timeline & the most recent tweet when reloading, rather than keeping my position at the last read tweet. This means that I must always scroll back down to try to find my previous position to begin catching up on new tweets. -

Inappropriate? This has come back in the latest updates after adjusting the way tweets are maked as seen.
Once again nambu now scrolls to the top of timeline instead of staying at the last read tweet as before.
This along with the new way tweets are marked as read on scroll is making nambu very irritating and making it hard to keep up with tweets.
Can we fix this once again?
I’m sad to see the error that most annoyed me come back
-
Inappropriate?+1 I'm seeing the same as @Rafael
-
Inappropriate?same here
-
Inappropriate?+1 -- I just noticed this myself.
-
Inappropriate?agreed. coming back to the machine in the morning, timeline is at top, not at least unread.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem as well. The most recent version always puts me at the top of my timeline requiring me to scroll up and down for the tweets to be marked as read.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Scrolling got better in last update, but now it occasionally scrolls down to a random tweet way back in the history, haven't found a pattern yet.
-
Inappropriate?Maybe I'm the only guy who feels this way, but I LIKE to have it autoscroll to the latest tweet. Can this behavior be an option in the preferences?
I’m a little frustrated I can't change it
-
Inappropriate? We have simply not gotten to this yet. Currently, Nambu will remain and its scroll position when new tweets come in. However, I plan to update this to: 1) if at top of timeline, stay at top of timeline; and 2) if not at top of timeline, do not move. This will accommodate most use cases without adding the complexity of a preference about something geeky like "scroll position".

Works for me! Thanks, Eric. I've literally just started using Nambu & love it so far. Once threaded replies are in, I'm making the switch from Tweetie! -

That does not sound like a good idea. cause when you read all tweets you usually scroll all the way to the top... when new tweets come in, i want the scroll to stay on this last unread tweet, if it stays on top i'll be reading the tweets in inverse order...
Seriosly, best go for the complex preference on this if that's what you propose. Many may agree with me that this would be a total deal breaker, makes keeping up way to hard and confusing -

Eric... I fully agree about trying to keep the app simple, both from the user perspective and (I guess) from the complexity of coding perspective.
HOWEVER... there is a problem with your statement. If I read a bunch of tweets (in a given group, home, list, or top level folder), then I will generally have got to the top, so my scroll position WILL be the top. That means that when I go back to a group, list, etc. then it will stay at the top.
I'm beginning to think this might need to be an option setting in preferences, much as you might not want to. -

Inappropriate?Last update broke scrolling.
When you get like 120+ tweets coming in, like overnight and you wake up MacOSX, the scrolling does not go to the last unread tweet, nor to the top.. it simply stays in a random point between those 2.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I'm beginning to think this might be different depending what view one is using. I am a big user of the "outline" view... and for me, it seems that Nambu always stays at the top... UNLESS I restart the app and then it will go to the first unread tweet (in the middle of the screen)... which is exactly what I would like EVERY time... all the time!
I’m still a little frustrated
-
Inappropriate? This is implemented now with two preference options in the update to 2.0.5b.

this solves the problem
