Only Show Tweet's Gear Menu on Mouseover
I'd like to see some adjustment in the appearance of the gear icon for each tweet -- it's a bit dark now and I keep confusing it with the unread bullet. I would prefer to prioritize the unread bullet.
Perhaps the gear can (optionally via preferences) go away until you hover over a tweet?

The company has not planned to implement this.
The best point from the company

We tried this and ultimately I thought to be worse than having it show on every tweet. We will keep it as it is for a while and see how this thread develops. We may add a preference option for it if enough people request it.

Inappropriate? This is exactly what we plan to do: it will only appear on a mouseover on the tweet at some point.

Inappropriate? We did this in the update to 1.9.1.0b.

I see that this change was backed out. Why?
(I don't feel strongly either way, just curious.) -
I did not like it. I find it distracting to have an icon fluttering about while interacting with tweets. This is one of those things some people will like while others dont. -
Inappropriate? It's looking better now. The less UI clutter the better. When you get around to bringing back columns view, making the column header panel (with reply/rewteet buttons etc) looks cleaner would be nice too. Basically anything that involves the same UI elements being shown multiple times indicates a cleaner design is possible. EventBox is the worst for this - they have a large area with the same UI elements repeated for every tweet shown. Nambu are heading in the right direction though :)

Inappropriate?Well, another option would be a preference to turn off the in-tweet gear menu altogether. It's redundant for those of us with two-button mice anyway.

I agree it is redundant in that case.
