CPU Usage Spikes to 100%+
I've been running into an issue where CPU usage just spikes to 100% randomly. I took a sample w/activity monitor while it was occurring, hopefully this helps:

I only have a Twitter account set up.

Inappropriate? Also, the "average" cpu usage of the 1.9.x client is way more than expected.
I can tell this version makes my cpu go from 45oC degrees to 75oC, and the fan up to max speed.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? We have some optimizations still to do around displaying timelines. If you run a large number of searches you will also see this. We are aware of the problem and will be optimizing further.

Inappropriate? When starting Nambu, my CPU load explodes (Nambu at 150%), then goes back to normal. However, when scrolling in the Tweet list, Nambu goes up to 100%+ again. This happens in both views.

Nambu causes a really high CPU load at startup and while scrolling..
I’m not yet

Inappropriate?Nambu 1.9.1.0b (269) hogs the CPU when updating. I'm on OS X 10.6.1 on a Macbook Air. The older 1.9.0 version did the same.

I’m anxious

Inappropriate?Sounds good that this is a known issue and a fix is coming. During a few hours when Nambu didn't work with 10.6 (at all, this was before I got beta access) I tried another Twitter client and hated it. I want my Nambu!
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I don't use search at all, so that is unrelated to my CPU usage problem, FYI
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? On Leopard (10.5) CPU usage picks till 170%+ each 4 seconds => fan always turning :(
I use 5 accounts, about 16 groups (8 x 2 accounts), but no searche. MR is around 42 MB
Hope you can find something !
I’m sad

Yes we have some optimizations to do. -
Indeed. It's back to 1.2 standards I'd say. I've made pretty extensive search, scrolling tests and cpu usage goes to 40-70% exactly as old 1.2 Nambu. -
We will optimize this further. We have not done much at all. Crashes and bugs and critical features are more important currently. We will get to improving this. -
Inappropriate?CPU load reports fine now but fans still spin up fully after a while of running.
-
Inappropriate?I'm not running any searches but I have this problem. Its gotten so that I have to quit nambu after a few hours.
-
We have not done much work with optimizing yet. We will get to it soon though. -
Inappropriate?Hi Eric,
I'm seeing CPU spikes on fetching tweets and/or rendering the timeline and it seems to be notably worse with the latest beta. I've got a screen capture if you need it.
Thx -
Thanks, but no I dont need anything. We are seeing the same thing. The issue is not CPU usage, it has always been high, but that the UI is blocking in some cases. We are looking at it. -
Inappropriate? Its gotten so bad that I have to quit nambu after i'm done checking updates. Its become death to my battery life. I'm hoping some sort of optimization fix is part of the next update.
-
We are actively working on optimization of the tweet timelines, which is most of the issue, while we ignored for quite a while. It will improve soon. -
good to hear -
Inappropriate?also have this issue. sounds like you're on it, which is great. i get it on fetching tweets and displaying the timeline.
I’m frustrated
-
This is exactly where you would get it. It made sense to add all kinds of key features like URL following and inline photos before optimizing, especially for yFrog; do a search for yFrog and you see what I mean. There is a lot of custom drawing going on that we are now looking at shaving as much processor load off as we can. -
Inappropriate?Just wanted to say that this is still an issue with beta 1.9.3.1. Gonna switch back to Tweetie for a while until it's resolved.
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?same problem here on a powermac G5 dual 2,0 , 3 accounts, ~8 searches..
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?1 account, 20ish searches, 20ish lists, MacBook Pro 2.53GHz 4GB RAM, OS X 10.6.2, Nambu 1.9.3.1b (935).
Have to quit Nambu to prevent self going mad from fans spinning up and down repeatedly in otherwise silent office.
I’m climbing the walls
-
Inappropriate? My CPU usage starts to spike up randomly after some time of idle use. It would hover around 30%-50% and start to tax the resources.
I have to keep quitting and relaunching the app every 30mins or so to keep resource allocation to a min.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Same here. I don't think this is less pressing than "key features" - it makes Nambu very unenjoyable to use. App constantly crashes, or I have to re-start it.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? We have made significant improvements in this regards, and so I will mark this as resolved. I never see the CPU go above 60% on my Macbook Pro at this point.

this solves the problem
