Inappropriate?Groups are not back yet. They are in final development, but it will be a bit longer yet. They are a high priority development item.
-
Thx Eric... great fast response... Groups are essential for me.. and I'm happy you guys take it as a high prio... -
glad to hear we'll see groups soon (I hope) I agree they are ESSENTIAL. Looking forward to their return. -
Inappropriate?Yeah. I miss the groups already. Glad to hear they will be coming back soon. Also, is the People following and followers button part of the groups thing, I'm not seeing the People icon in the outline view.
-
Inappropriate? Not to be picky, but the groups are a huge part of what sets Nambu apart from other client apps. I wish "this beta currently does not offer group support" had been in the email, I think I would have stuck with my older version of Nambu if I had known. But, great app nonetheless. Thanks.
-
Inappropriate?Groups is the only reason I use Nambu over other OS X native clients.
-
Inappropriate? We know and understand all of this. This is why it will be added and completed on par with known bugs.
-
Inappropriate?Groups are back! There are still some minor issues to resolve, and user experience to improve, but groups are largely implemented at this point.

I see groups listed in the sidebar, and I see where to add a new group under the gear icon - BUT nothing happens when I try to create a group. So, it seems right now groups are back in name only, not in fuctionality (fyi I just downloaded the latest update) -

You have a Nambu account installed and setup under Preferences > Nambu? -
solved - apparently had wrong password for authorization -
Inappropriate?Any chance there's a way to salvage our groups from 1.2?
-
No there is not, unfortunately. This new version solves this problem going forward. -
Inappropriate?I got groups back, but how to add people to the groups? Is one-at-a-time via the main stream the only way? No way to do it in bulk?
-
Yes, that is the only way currently. Not sure when we will get to completing a bulk management interface. -
Inappropriate?Well, I can't add a group at all! either in bulk or via single click. How do I get this functionality to work?
I’m sad
-
Nevermind. Worked out the Nambu log-in was needed in preferences (I misread this info in earlier reply). -
SCRATCH THAT - I have two accounts and groups is only working on the first account i.e. I can set-up a group on the second account but when I close Nambu the groups for the second account are lost (or aren't visible). HELP!! -
Well, I downloaded 1.9.1.0b and still have the same problem. Is it because I've synchronized the groups? I know it's recording the group names as when I try to establish a folder that I've already tried it says 'object already exists'. So, I've gone back to using 1.2.1(3460) as it works fine. I appreciate 1.9.1.0b is a beta version and it's looking better than 1.2.1 but until the group bug is fixed, I'll stick with 1.2.1. -
I really have no idea. Can you try removing your Nambu directory with Application Support and your plist file for nambu? -
Hi Eric. Am on the email with support at that moment, so have just done that and still having the same problem. -
Inappropriate?I am going to try this out... groups are my favorite thing about Nambu :)
I’m hopeful
-
Working perfect :) -
Inappropriate? They say group are back but they are not for me... I am very disappointed and am likely to quit using nambu as I feel there is some obvious serious developping issues - this software is probably not robust enough for my purpose. It is so ridiculous to think they would have removed the group in a beta release.
-
you need to sign up for an account on the web site and enter your acct info in prefs for groups to work -
I've signed up for an account and i still can't get groups working. -
Weird, I got groups working no problem! I love it and it's my favorite thing :) It must be something you are doing. -
Yes we are also not sure what is causing these problems for a some people. We have never seen any problems ourselves so it is making it hard to track down. -
Inappropriate?I should not have to sign up for an account. I already have my twitter account and that should be sufficient as an id for nambu - unless this is a specific beta release condition. To jasmine84, if I take the time to post a comment here it means that I have been through all sensible and intuitive ways to deal with an issue. To me, nambu is the problem because it should be close to trivial to be able to do whatever I want. Rule #1 of user interface.
-
Just attaching groups to your Twitter login is really not sufficient to maintain any sort of security on the network access. There needs to be another layer of authorization for updates because we are not going to verify credentials with Twitter each time a group addition or removal is made, as your suggestion would require. Things are often not nearly as "trivial" as you assume. -
Just to get some clarification, Eric: old Nambu had to verify credentials with Twitter in order for the end user to create/edit groups? -
No it did not because groups were local to the desktop only. Now all groups configurations are on our network, and not stored on the desktop at all. When group changes are made they are immediately confirmed with our network. -
Inappropriate?@Marie-Louise
I wholeheartedly agree.
The current implementation of groups is annoying and not user-friendly. -
It can definitely be improved and will be. Rome was not built in a day, as they say. -
That was 2500 years ago. Now we have quad core processors. ;o) -
Inappropriate?Keep in mind guys that this is a beta and Nambu is super receptive and communicative with us to a degree that no other OS X Twitter developer even pretends to be. Try asking Atebits for something or Craig Hockenberry :)
So be patient, this stuff is coming and pretty dang fast.
I’m confident
-
Agree totally with you, Chris. Never seen so much speedy response from developers for users! Gold Award for Great Customer Service, I reckon! -
Inappropriate? Is it me or it feels more like Alpha than Beta? A beta version is usually fully fonctionnal but unstable due to lack of testing. Now I do have the groups - because I registered but I cannot edit them. Nor can I add directly to them, like I used to be able to in the past. And where are my searches?
Dear Mr. White, good if they are hyper receptive, this is my hope posting my problems here.
-
I have always found the Alpha vs. Beta debate to be pretty academic. The fact is we are building out the new Nambu more publicly that users may be used to. It allows us to be as user driven as possible, and focus on areas we might otherwise not view as important.
A bulk management interface for groups is in the works. -
First time I hear that Alpha vs Beta is an academic matter. To me, it does mean a lot. Specially in that "Beta level software generally includes all features" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software...). All beta software I've used so far would have bugs but nothing like missing features or regression from previous version. I do think I am going to give up on nambu for now. I need a more mature Twitter application. Good luck. -
Well Eric, @natobasso helped me with my problems so I might go on testing nambu for a while longer. But please, enhance the user interface quickly. It should be much more intuitive - i.e. there should be 3 ways to do any action: menu, button, right click. I am thinking about the way to save a search under "Search". I missed the blue + sign at first and was really annoyed. That is for my user driven advice -
Alpha/Beta or whatever is not for everyone. It does not sound like it is for you. My only point is I dont get caught up in what I see as a pointless debate as far as Nambu is concerned. We have we have, are developing it as fast as we can, and we soon be vastly better than anything else on OSX. The old versions and new versions are entirely different code bases so it is not a "regression" issue at all.
If you dont want to use Nambu because I dont care what Wikipedia says about the definition of beta, then Ok. There is not much I can do, and life will go on either way.
As for the search issue, we can try and work on that. To me a + sign is pretty obvious. We will add a RC, hotkey, and menu item for it at some point. We cant get to everything in a single day. I think the update pace and rapid improving nature of Nambu currently speaks for itself. We will get there. -
Inappropriate?@marie-louise Yes, I agree. Beta is a bit of a stretch for where things are. I feel sorry for the folks who got in real early, since I've seen a big jump in stability and usability in just the last two dot releases. I only recently got in, but was pretty frustrated early on.
That said, I'm not complaining. Nambu is pretty functional where it is now and I enjoy using it and seeing the quick progress. Groups does happen to be the big pain point for me (bulk edit pleeze!) though.
As far as using them, keep in mind you can only add members to a group from of their tweets, thus my bulk edit comment above. It's really only marginally useful until that is in place.
Also agree that Nambu should support OAuth for twitter generally, and find some way to use that as a way to authenticate the Nambu account.
-
OAuth? Why? Your Twitter password(s) goes in to your keychain, and all communication with Twitter is over SSL. -
Inappropriate?I just got the invite for the Nambu beta so I downloaded and installed. I cannot get Groups to work. I have signed up for a Nambu account and have entered the e-mail address and pwd in Preferences. The "Apply" button is grayed out but nothing happens.
What can I do? -
Not sure. Groups are definitely in there and working for pretty much everybody else. The only thing I can think of is that your Nambu username/password is entered incorrectly. -
I also downloaded and signed up from the email, all works but groups. It shows groups, but when i right click, the "create new group" is disabled... -

Same for me. Not sure what's happening. -
Same for me -
Inappropriate? To add one more voice to the crowd - yep, groups aren't working. And I really wanted that feature!
I’m underwhelmed
